Summary

LUT University (Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT) was founded in Finland in 1969. Lappeenranta campus is built on the shores of Lake Saimaa – the 4th largest lake in Europe. The second campus of LUT University is in Lahti.

LUT awards the following degrees: Bachelor of Science (Econ), Bachelor of Science (Tech), Master of Science (Tech), Master of Science (Econ), Licentiate of Science (Econ), Licentiate of Science (Tech), Doctor of Science (Tech), Doctor of Science (Econ), and Doctor of Philosophy.

At the beginning of 2015, the university switched to an organizational model that does not include conventional faculties and departments. Instead, the university consists of three independent colleges that focus on the following research topics:

Tuition Fees

Citizens of EU/EEA Countries and Switzerland

Citizens of the following countries are not required to pay a tuition fee:

  • The European Union (EU)
  • The European Economic Area (EEA)
  • Switzerland

For citizenship proof a copy of your valid passport or your national ID card is required to be submitted to your Online Application Form.

Non-EU/EEA Countries

Citizens of the non-EU/EEA countries (excluding Switzerland) are required to pay a tuition fee of 10000 euros per year for their studies in the international programs at LUT University.

There are, however, certain exceptions:

1. If you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country (excluding Switzerland) and a holder of one of the following, you are do not need to pay a tuition fee:

  • Continuous Residence Permit Card in Finland (A)
  • Permanent Residence Permit Card in Finland (P)
  • EU Residence Permit for Third-Country Citizens with a Long-Term Residence Permit Card in Finland (P-EU)
  • EU Family Member’s Residence Card in Finland
  • EU Blue Card in Finland

2. If you are a citizen of the United Kingdom, and you have entered Finland before January 1, 2021, while also having one of the following:

  • Right of Residence under the Withdrawal Agreement
    or, a proof from Finnish Immigration Service for having applied to register your EU Right to Residence in Finland under the Withdrawal Agreement
  • Residence Permit Card with Right of Permanent Residence by virtue of the Withdrawal Agreement
    or, a proof from Finnish Immigration Service for having applied for Residence Permit Card with Right of Permanent Residence by virtue of the Withdrawal Agreement

Scholarships are Tuition Fee Waivers

You are able to qualify for a Tuition Fee Waiver by applying for Regular/Double Degree/Joint Degree/Trilateral Degree Enrollment and when you are expected to pay a scholarship fee. No Tuition Fee Waivers are required for the first academic year by applying to the Rolling Enrollment. There is a chance, under some conditions, to qualify for a Tuition Fee Waiver for the second academic year.

So, you are not guaranteed to have the Tuition Fee Waiver the second year of your master? That is exactly correct as you are expected to complete a minimum of 60 ECTS credits of studies included in your personal study plan during your first academic year in order to get Tuition Fee Waiver for the second year as well.

Application for 2021

  • The rolling application period for Master’s programs taught in English (excluding Master’s Programs in Biorefineries and Circular Economy) is 1 November 2020−31 May 2021.
  • The next application period for all Bachelor’s programs taught in English is January 2022.
  • The next regular application period for all the Master’s programs taught in English is December 2021−January 2022.
